Fr. Roberto Boholst SJ is the Director of the the four-year old Colegio de Santo Inacio de Loyola at Kasait, East Timor, and Jesuit Education Delegate of the Independent Region of East Timor. Here he writes about his experiences and insights from the JCAP Colloquium on the 4 Cs held at the Sanata Dharma University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia from the 21st to 23rd of September 2016.
Educators, both Jesuits and lay, from all over Asia and the Pacific gathered in Jogjakarta, Indonesia from September 21 to 23 for an in-depth discussion of the implementation of the so-called “4 Cs” in our schools: Competence, Conscience, Compassion, and Commitment. The Ignatian Student Leadership Forum (ISLF) was held from August 15 to 21 in 2016 in Jogjakarta of Indonesia. The monsoon rains did stop the student leaders from so many different countries in the Asia-Pacific region to converge in unfamiliar Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
Our delegation left Manila on a very stormy Sunday. After two flights and more than eight hours of travel, we were welcomed warmly by our hosts at the airport. The other delegations encountered floods on the way to Jogjakarta, but everything fell in place at the end of the day.
The education secretaries within the Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific (JCAP) met from May 30 to June 2 in Siem Reap, Cambodia to discuss, among many things, possible projects for collaboration. Guiding the discussion around how members of the Asia Pacific network of Jesuit schools can assist and support each other’s projects was the new JCAP Coordinator for Basic and Secondary Education, Fr Johnny Go SJ, who took over the role from Fr Christopher Gleeson SJ recently.
