Some faculty of the Niels Steensens Gymnasium met with Fr. Johnny Go SJ one Wednesday afternoon to discuss Jesuit education and Ignatian Pedagogy. On 21 May 2024, the teachers from both the primary and secondary school of the Jesuit school in Copenhagen joined the conversation, reflecting in particular on how Ignatian Pedagogy might help them teach more effectively given today’s challenges.

Fr. Go acknowledged the heroic work of teachers everywhere especially today when so much pressure is exerted on them from different fronts. He proposed that the Learning by Refraction approach in particular will not only strengthen the Jesuit brand in our schools, but also help us reinvent ourselves as effective educators in this age of social media and AI.

The conversation also touched on the need for discernment in these increasingly complex and uncertain times—especially the difficulty of teaching this practice to our students.

After the session, Fr. Go observed how inspired he was by the level of engagement and enthusiasm manifested by those who attended the session on Ignatian Pedagogy. Together with the teachers, he expressed his hope that there would be more opportunities in the future for teachers to reflect on the mission of Jesuit education.
